Honest communication
It doesn't matter if you work from home or have a more traditional job when it comes to difficult conversations. Conversations that are difficult are usually the ones where you have to be bluntly honest with someone with regards to their performance, however these "difficult" conversations are needed as the person you are speaking with may not know their shortcomings. Most of the people working a home business want three things out of their business venture. Fair pay, training for the job they are expected to perform and feedback about how well they are doing their job. Evaluating someone's job performance can be a stressful experience not only for the employee but also for the business owner or mentor. Consistent communication is manadatory for your team to be a success. If I as a mentor never touch base with my team members then how do they know if they can be doing something else to assist them in attaining their goals or how do they know that they are doing an excellent job? You may think that if the person is recruiting a lot of people that they should know they are doing a good job, but how do they know that the amount of people they have recruited is above or below normal? Thats simple, you tell them, hence communication. I worked for a long time with a telecommunications company. Now you would think in that industry that communication would be awesome, well sadly enough the weakest part of the company was its communication. I met daily with my team and gave them updates, met with them on an individual basis weekly and discussed their progress and I recieved numerous awards for my teams performace, however I had bi monthly meetings with my superiors so I had to guess between meetings how I was doing and what new programs were getting ready to launch. So you see you NEED to communicate with your team! Ok back to the topic. Now I am not saying that if you have someone on your team that isn't performing to go out and verbally attack that person. What you need to do is reach out to that person, determine what they are doing and how they are doing it. This is accomplished by asking questions and listening. Once you know what is going on you can then work with that person to create an action plan, but remember to make the action plan with attainable goals. In todays MLM industry there are people that jump from business to business and this causes you to not be able to retain team members. If you follow the above to the best of your ability you will see that it is much easier for you to retain your team members and be much more successful. |
